OpenBookshelf

Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 2026  ·  Fe Studio

OpenBookshelf collects absolutely no data. Everything the app does happens entirely on your device. Nothing is ever transmitted, stored remotely, or shared with anyone — including us.

Who we are

OpenBookshelf is developed and published by Fe Studio, an independent software studio. You can reach us at [email protected].

What data we collect

None. OpenBookshelf does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data, usage data, analytics, crash reports, or any other information about you or your device.

How OpenBookshelf works

OpenBookshelf is a native iOS app that runs entirely on your iPhone and iPad. All book data, reading history, and preferences you configure are stored locally on your device and optionally synced via your personal iCloud account.

At no point does any data — including your book library, reading history, or settings — leave your device or reach Fe Studio's servers. Fe Studio does not operate any servers that receive data from OpenBookshelf.

Open Library

OpenBookshelf uses the Open Library API (openlibrary.org) to search for book metadata (titles, authors, cover images, ISBNs). When you search for a book, your search query is sent to Open Library's public API. No personal information or identifying data is included in these requests.

Open Library is a project of the Internet Archive, a non-profit organization. Their privacy policy governs any data collected by their API. Fe Studio has no relationship with Open Library beyond using their public API.

Third-party services

OpenBookshelf does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs. There are no third-party services embedded in the app that could collect your data.

Purchase and payment processing is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Apple's privacy policy governs any data collected during the purchase process. Fe Studio never receives your payment information.

iCloud sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, iOS may sync your book library and app preferences across your devices using your personal iCloud account. This sync happens between your devices via Apple's infrastructure and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. Fe Studio cannot access this data.

Goodreads import

When you import your Goodreads data, the import file is processed entirely on your device. The file is not uploaded to any server. Fe Studio never sees or has access to your Goodreads data.

Children's privacy

OpenBookshelf does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Because no data is collected, OpenBookshelf is compliant with COPPA and similar children's privacy regulations by design.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how OpenBookshelf handles data (for example, if we add optional features that involve data collection), we will update this policy and change the effective date above. We will never collect data without updating this policy first.
